Bank of America Refuses to End Ties with HSUS

By Paige Wallace, NCBA Communications

In late July, Beltway Beef posted a response to Bank of America's decision to create a HSUS themed credit card. For every new account that is opened with this HSUS card, $60 is given to the radical animal rights organization. Each $100 that is spent with the card also provides an additional 25 cents to HSUS.

This disheartening decision was noticed by a number of agricultural groups, including the Animal Agriculture Alliance. Not only did the organization release a report about Bank of America's new credit card, but they also personally wrote a letter to Bank of America. In the letter they explained that if the bank did not discontinue the HSUS card, then they would be forced to end their business with Bank of America.

Unfortunately, the bank indicated it would not discontinue its HSUS affinity card program, so the Alliance has made the decision to end its relationship with its bank of 25 years.

In a press release from the Alliance, Bank of America CEO Kay Johnson Smith ironically emphasized his long time connections with agriculture and his sincere commitment to supporting agriculture through numerous sponsorships, research and service. The Alliance stated it cannot continue a business relationship with companies that are contributing financially to extreme animal rights organizations that seek to eliminate the animal agriculture industry.

  1. Yeah for the Nat'l Cattlemen's Beef Association. I, as a BoA customer of many years had zero idea that BoA was so unaware of the corporations they affiliate with.

I, for one, as a customer of BoA will be letting BoA know that I do not appreciate their affiliation with HSUS and shall respectfully request they terminate any agreements they have with HSUS. (Not that it will do any good - I'm not one of their 'bigger' clients so my voice is never listened to)

Oh well, I've been wanting to switch banks anyways this will give me the motivation to do that now.

SHAME ON BANK OF AMERICA-THEY NEED TO EITHER CHECK FURTHER INTO THE MISINTERPRETATIONS OR MISREPRESENTATIONS OF THE hsus! THEY, IN MY OPINION, ARE a DISGRACE to the American people and their animals! (signed anonymously due to proper choice not offered) Sandy N.
